PSLE exam day can be stressful for both students and parents. This guide covers everything you need to know to make exam day smooth and successful.

The Night Before

For Students:

  • Review key notes, don’t cram new content
  • – Pack your stationery: 2B pencils, eraser, ruler, calculator (with fresh batteries)
  • – Set your alarm
  • – Go to bed at your usual time

For Parents:

  • Prepare a healthy breakfast for the next day
  • – Confirm exam venue and timing
  • – Keep the atmosphere calm and positive
  • – Don’t pressure or over-revise

Morning Of The Exam

Wake Up Early:

Give yourself plenty of time. Rushing creates unnecessary stress.

Eat A Good Breakfast:

Complex carbohydrates for sustained energy. Avoid heavy, greasy foods.

Check Your Pencil Case:

  • NRIC or student pass
  • – 2B pencils (sharpened)
  • – Eraser
  • – Ruler
  • – Calculator (approved model)
  • – Watch (if allowed)

Listen To Instructions:

Pay attention to the invigilator’s announcements.

Make sure everything is within reach.

Calm Your Mind:

During The Exam

Read The Instructions:

Manage Your Time:

Allocate time based on marks. Don’t spend 10 minutes on a 1-mark question.

Answer Easy Questions First:

Build confidence by starting with what you know.

Show Your Working:

Especially for Math. Working can earn method marks.

Check Units:

Are you answering in the right units? cm or m? g or kg?

Don’t Leave Blanks:

If unsure, make an educated guess. There’s no penalty for wrong MCQ answers.

Watch The Clock:

Keep track of time. Don’t get stuck on difficult questions.

After The Exam

Don’t Discuss Answers:

It’s over. Talking about it only creates anxiety.

Take A Break:

Rest before preparing for the next paper.

Stay Positive:

Regardless of how it went, focus on what’s next.

Common Mistakes To Avoid

Panic When Seeing Difficult Questions:

Skip and return. Don’t let one question derail you.

Spending Too Long On One Question:

If stuck after 3-4 minutes, move on.

Not Checking Your Work:

Always leave time to review answers.

Misreading Questions:

Read twice, answer once.

Forgetting To Shade The OAS:

For MCQ, shade the correct oval completely.

For Parents: How To Support Your Child

Stay Calm:

Your child picks up on your energy.

Avoid Last-Minute Pressure:

Don’t cram on the way to the exam.

Provide Encouragement:

“You’ve prepared well, just do your best.”

Celebrate Effort, Not Results:

Focus on the hard work, not the outcome.
